What are All-in-One (AIO) Cloth Diapers? Definition All-in-one cloth diapers are composed of an absorbent cloth diaper sewn into an outer waterproof layer. All-in-one (AIO) diapers fasten with Velcro® or snaps making them adjustable for baby. These diapers are 1 piece. No separate inserts, doublers, or covers. Why we LOVE AIO's All-in-one cloth diapers are hands down the easiest cloth diapers to use. Everything is sewn together so there are no extra parts or pieces, no folding, and no fasteners or pins. AIO's are a Daddy and babysitter favorite because they are so similar to disposables. All-in-ones are also the only cloth diaper that I recommend for daycare. Our Brands Cutie Tooties carries the following All-in-one Cloth Diapers: Jam Tots Berry Plush AIO, Mommy's Touch One-Size AIO, Thirsties AIO, & Proraps AIO. What are Cloth Diaper Covers? Definition Cloth Diaper Covers, (also called Cloth diaper wraps) serve the same purpose as rubber pants did years ago. They provide a waterproof outer for pre-fold & fitted diapers. Diaper covers are usually made of Laminated Polyester, Laminated Cotton, Wool, or Polar Fleece. Cloth Diaper covers fasten with Velcro or snaps. Why we LOVE Cloth Diaper Covers Diaper covers are SO much nicer than rubber pants from days of old, and MUCH more comfortable for baby. There are many varieties of diaper covers to choose from, so parents can always find one suitable for baby’s needs. I personally love that there are many fabric choices. Polyester works well day or night, and is the work horse fabric for diaper covers. Cotton provides a nice breathable fabric for diaper covers, and is great for babies who are sensitive to polyester and for day time use. Wool is a superb option for heavy wetters, and provides a nice soft fit from natural fibers. Polar Fleece is also great for heavy wetters and can be dried in the dryer! Our brands Cutie Tooties carries the following Cloth Diaper Covers: Bummis Super Whisper Wrap, Bummis SuperBrite, Thirsties Cover, Proraps Classic Cover, Imse Vimse Organic Cotton Wrap, Sugar Peas Fleece Cover, & Stacinator Stretch Wool. What are Fitted Cloth Diapers? Definition Fitted diapers have a contoured or form fitted shape and have gathered casings around the legs which provide great containment for even the loosest of contents. Some fitted diapers fasten with Velcro & others with snaps. A waterproof diaper cover is necessary when using fitted diapers. A new baby will need 10-12 fitted diapers & 6-8 diaper covers per day. Older babies & Toddlers will need fewer fitted diapers and covers. I recommend purchasing enough diapers and covers for 2 days so that you aren’t dependent on laundering every day. Plus, poopy days happen! Why We LOVE Fitted Diapers Fitted cloth diapers are my personal favorites for newborns. These cloth diapers are so easy to use--even at 3am, and they are super soft. Fitted diapers are also GREAT at containing loose newborn stools, even for breastfed babies. The soft gusseted legs provide an extra line of defense for messy stools. Brands Cutie Tooties carries a wide selection of fitted diapers including hemp, cotton sherpa, & velour. Our brands of fitted cloth diapers are: Kissaluvs, Happy Hempy's, Sugar Peas hemp Fitteds, & Thirsties Fab Fitteds! What are Pocket Diapers? Definition Pocket Cloth diapers consist of a waterproof outer shell, often made of laminated polyester or laminated cotton, with a fleece, suede cloth, or velour inner. The outer keeps the diaper waterproof. The inner provides softness and often stay dry material next to baby's skin. This unique cloth diaper has an opening either in the front of the back of the diaper that allows for an absorbent insert to slide in between the outer and inner layers. Once the insert is in place, the diaper is ready to use. Without the insert, the diaper is not absorbent. Why we LOVE Pocket Diapers Pocket Diapers are super easy to use. These modern diapers are just as easy as disposable diapers, and much more comfortable for baby. In addition, they are fast drying and great for all ages and stages of diapering. You can control the absorbency by choosing inserts that best suit your baby's need, making these diapers the most customizable cloth diapers we have found. PLUS - pocket diapers are SUPER CUTE, and who doesn't love that? Our Brands Cutie Tooties carries the following brands of cloth pocket diapers: Bumgenius!, Fuzzi Bunz, Happy Heiny's, Happy Heiny's One-Size Pocket Diapers & Snap-EZ (Coming June 2008). What are Prefold Cloth Diapers? Definition A Prefold Cloth Diaper is a cloth diaper that has been folded for greatest thickness & absorbency in the center, where baby needs it most. The diaper folds are sewn into place with 6-8 absorbent layers in the center of the diaper, and 2-4 layers on the outer edges. Prefold cloth diapers are usually made of conventional cotton. However, prefolds are also made of hemp & organic cotton. *Note* Prefold Cloth diapers require a waterproof cover. What are Diaper Service Quality Prefolds (DSQ) and how are they different from the ones I find in department stores? Diaper Service Quality Prefold diapers are made to endure the extra high heat & repeated washing of industrial washing machines and dryers. As a result, these diapers are incredibly more resilient than department store prefolds. DSQ Prefolds also have extra stitching on the edges to ensure long-lasting durability. DSQ Prefolds will last through many years and many children in your home washing machine with ease. Why we LOVE Prefold Cloth Diapers! Prefolds are the biggest money saving cloth diapers around. Prefolds are very inexpensive to use, but are also super durable. Many parents use the same prefolds through all of their children. Prefold Cloth Diapers are easy to use, and may be use din a variety of ways. You can tri-fold them in a Cloth diaper cover such as a Bummis Super Whisper Wrap or a Thirsties Cover. Or you can use a Snappi diaper fastener or pins to secure the prefold. Finally, prefold diapers also make great pocket diaper inserts for heavy wetting children. In short, you will never run out of uses for Prefold Cloth Diapers. They are the backbone of cloth diapering systems! Our Brands Cutie Tooties carries Baby Textiles Indian Cotton Prefolds, Green Earth Textiles Chinese Cotton Prefolds, & Baby Kicks Hemp Prefolds. What are Pocket Diaper Inserts? Definition Pocket Cloth Diaper Inserts are several layers of absorbent fabric sewn together in a long, trim shape that slip in between the outer waterproof layer & inner stay-dry layer of a pocket cloth diaper. Without the insert, a pocket cloth diaper is not absorbent at all. Fabric Options Pocket Cloth Diaper Inserts can be made of several different fabrics. The most popular of these is Microfiber. Microfiber is a polyester blend fabric that can hold 3-4 times its own weight in liquid. Microfiber is also quick-absorbing & inexpensive, making it a great option for diaper inserts. One microfiber insert is usually enough for a young baby. Around age 6 months, you may find that your child requires 2 microfiber inserts. Hemp is another popular fabric used to make pocket diaper inserts. Hemp is even more absorbent than microfiber, and is even more trim. Hemp is also a natural fiber that resists mold & bacterial growth naturally. Hemp is a great diaper insert choice for a heavy wetting child. Microfiber & Hemp inserts can also be used simultaneously when extra absorbency is needed. Place the microfiber insert on top of the hemp insert and then put both inserts into the pocket diaper. Many parents find this to be the perfect solution for their children because they get the Benefit of quick-absorbing microfiber plus the super absorbency of hemp. Prefolds, both cotton & hemp can be used as inserts for pocket diapers as well. Cotton prefolds can usually provide enough absorbency for a regular to moderately heavy wetting child. Hemp prefolds are necessary for super heavy wetters and toddlers during long periods between changes such as nap time and over night. What is a Cloth Diaper Fastener?
